William Bruce McClure 1945 - 2023

William (Bill) McClure passed away on Saturday October 28, 2023, in Naples, Florida after a brief illness.

Bill was born in Rockford Illinois on June 1, 1945, to Charles Adam McClure and Linda Falk. He grew up on 24th Street in Rockford. From the beginning, he loved school and learning. Bill graduated from Rockford East High School in 1963 where he earned a debate scholarship for college. He attended Northwestern University and received a Bachelor Degree in English Literature. Next, he studied law at the University of Illinois and earned a Law Degree in 1971. His studies were briefly interrupted when he joined the Army Reserves and married Carma Bordonaro, his high-school sweetheart, in 1968. Finally, he received an MBA from the University of Chicago in 1974.

Bill and Carma, both lovers of the big city, settled in Chicago where he established his own law practice. Also, Bill was president of Extended Intelligence, a computer software company that provided seminars and training for companies and governments across the US and the World. In 2015, Bill and Carma moved from the Chicago area to Naples, Florida to find better weather and a new adventure. He never looked back.

Bill was an intelligent, accomplished man who always seemed to succeed with every challenge presented to him. But above all, Bill was truly a kind and giving person. He never hesitated to give advice and help when called upon by. For family and friends, he was always there. Everyone loved and trusted him. But also, they liked him and enjoyed his company.

Bill is survived by his wife Carma McClure, his niece Kathleen Macias, and his nephews Scott Wells, Mike Wells, Charles McClure, David McClure, and Patrick McClure. He will be remembered and missed.

A visitation will take place on Monday, November 6, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Funeral Mass, 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 1010 Ferguson Street, Rockford, Illinois 61102, with burial to follow in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Bill’s name to a charity of the donor’s choice. To send online condolences or share memories, please visit www.fitzgeraldfh.com

Bill was indeed as described in the memory write-up.  I had not seen or spoken to Bill since high school, but he stopped me at the next to last reunion and we talked for quite a while...and were among the very last to leave the parking lot that night.

I knew Bill from the East Debate Club.  While we discussed that briefly, it was more interesting to hear how each other had lived our lives since then.  We both were grateful to the faculty at East for motivating us to enjoy learning about the world and how we can succeed in it.  While we agreed material success has been nice, we also firmly believed that family and personal relationships are the true joys in life.

I wish I had made the effort for Jeannie and I to meet up with Bill and his wife after that evening.  Bill was a great example of a life well lived.   My sincere condolences to his family.

I can only second the comments that Bob and Rick have posted.  Bill and I were friends at East, and I fondly remember the times and laughs we shared.  Classy and gentlemanly!!

Having spoken with Carmen at the funeral, he was taken from us too soon.  They spent over 60 wonderful years together, but they were deprived of a much anticipated trip to Israel recently which would have interfered with their joining us for the Reunion.

God's Peace, Bill, for your friendship and a life well lived.
