Judith Dahlin (Benson)

Judith passed away March 5, 2004, at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center. 
She was born on June 2, 1945, in St. Paul, MN, the daughter of Elaine A. Dahlin of St. Paul and the late Laurel W. Dahlin. 

Mrs. Benson graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN, earning a degree in nursing. She worked as a staff nurse at Duke University Medical Center and as an instructor at Rex Hospital in Raleigh. She began her nursing career in Wilmington as a staff nurse for Jack Campbell, MD. She worked as a home health care nurse for the New Hanover Co. Health Dept. and later was owner and president of Edgewood Home Health Care Associates. Most recently she had worked as a staff nurse at NHRMC. 

Judy was a member of St. Andrews Covenant Presbyterian Church where she was a member of the Choir, served as Director of the Handbell Choir, and was an interim organist. She was a member of the Wilmington Choral Society, a past president of the Board of Directors for the Wilmington Boys Choir, a piano accompanist for plays at Thalian Hall, and played the organ for numerous churches in the Wilmington area. In addition to her musical accomplishments she was also a member and treasurer of the Cape Fear Garden Club and had been Chairperson of the Azalea Festival Garden Tour. 

Surviving in addition to her mother is her husband, J. Robert (Robbie) Benson, Jr. of Wilmington; two sons, David Y. Mowbray and wife Christa of Wilmington and Brian J. Mowbray and wife Trisha of Chicago, IL; one brother, Roger L. Dahlin of Springfield, VA; one sister, Barbara E.D. Johnson of Minneapolis, MN; five step-children; eight step-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. 

A memorial service will be held 1:00 PM Monday, March 8, 2004, at St. Andrews-Covenant Presbyterian Church with Rev. Steve Hein and Rev. Robert Lapp officiating. A reception will follow the service at the church.
