Dr. Ronald A. Bargren, 81, of Byron, passed away on Thursday, July 2, 2026 at home. Born January 14, 1945, in Rockford, the son of Robert E. and Frieda E. (Bohn) Bargren. Graduate of East High School, Northern Illinois University and Northwestern University Dental School. Ron opened a General Dentistry Practice in the early 70’s and closed the practice in 2011. He was a die-hard Cubs and Bears fan and never missed a game. He was a walking encyclopedia and the king of corny jokes. Ron wouldn’t let you leave without listening to at least one. Ron also enjoyed collecting coins so much so that his son continues this hobby. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t do. Around 1979 he bought a plot of land in Byron, spending most of his life with family and friends building a cabin, a pond, miles of trails and countless deer stands. Ron was an avid deer hunter and has also hunted and fished around the world.
Survived by his sons, Jonathan (Holly) Bargren and Matt (Mallory) Bargren; grandchildren, Hunter Faith, Ace Joe, and Eva Jean Bargren; siblings, Dr. Larry (Cheri) Bargren and Phyllis Bargren; and special friend, Julie Bargren. Predeceased by his parents; and mother of his children, Caroline.
